Square Tiered Cake Pans

Square tiered cake pans are an easy way to get a really elegant and sophisticated looking cake without a lot of work. The square edges of the cakes make them easy to decorate with fondant or with icing, and their level surfaces make decorating them a breeze. If you're new to tiered cakes, I recommend using squared ones so that you can get the hang of what it takes to bake and decorate them before moving on to big, elaborate, tiered cakes.

An easy way to set up square tiered cakes is to stack them directly on top of each other. This saves you the trouble of dealing with platforms and stands. When stacking them directly on top of each other, there still needs to be something to secure them in place. Straws work well and are free, but plastic dowels work the best. When decorating these cakes, a lazy susan is a necessity.

If you want to use separated tiers most cake pan manufacturers have stands and platforms that match each of their pans. This means that you will get a perfect fit. When decorating these cakes, you have to have the cake on the platform so that you don't smear the icing while moving it. Also, be careful to center each of the platforms so that you don't have an unbalanced cake. Unbalanced cakes will tip over easily, and I don't think I need to explain why that's a bad thing...

Square cake pans are an excellent choice for the pro or amateur. They are both a great place to start with tiered cakes, and a place to show off your creative muscle.
