Even when the economy sucks, people still get married. Baking your own wedding cake, or having a friend or family member bake it for you is an excellent way to save a lot of money on your wedding.
On the surface it may seem like a lot of stress to bake someone else's wedding cake, but with some practice and the best shaped cake pan it's not too difficult. The key is practice and baking off a test cake to show the bride and groom.
Tiered wedding cake pans are very common. Usually, they are just different sized round cake pans. To create the tall look of each level of the wedding cake, multiple cakes are baked and stacked on top of each other. The different levels are then created with stands and platforms that are secured into the layer beneath. There really isn't much to the actual baking of the cake.
Decorating on the other hand is where people get hung up. If you're baking a wedding cake for someone else, you both need to be extremely clear with what you want so that there isn't any sort of miscommunication or problems later on. If they want white, give them white!
